The village of Loutro

The small village of Loutro can only be reached by boat or on foot and this feature has made it very popular with visitors looking for a quiet holiday. Set in a small bay at the foot of a steep mountain it is extremely well protected from wind and bad weather.

If you are the active type, there are plenty of superb walks in the area. Loutro has regular boat connections to other villages on the south coast of western Crete, making it a good base to explore the region from.

Along the sea front, there are several restaurants, cafés, a couple of bars and small grocery shops, and of course, the clear sea of the bay and its beach.
